MOTOR SCOOTER TRIP
Michigan - Wisconsin - Michigan
July 6- July 19
Janech and I just finished a two-week motor scooter tour in northern Italy. We spent most of our time in the unbelievable Dolomite Mountains. We rode more 180 degree turns than you can imagine. It was like riding in Yosemite for two weeks and never seeing the same mountain scene twice. Our overseas run underscored the JOY of the scooter.
The routing for the 2012 scooter tour will be up and around Lake Michigan. We’ll start in the Holland, Michigan, area and scooter to Ludington, Michigan, where we’ll catch a ferry across to Manitowoc, Wisconsin. (The increase in price is partially due to ferry toll.) Door County is a famous tourist area. We will do the whole length and back to Green Bay. We will head north out of Green Bay to Escanaba and pick up Highway 2 around the head of Lake Michigan to the St. Ignace/Mackinaw area.
The prettiest part of the ride will show up as we snug Michigan’s west coast and then south to Traverse City. There are numerous lake towns as we travel back to Ludington, all of them festive, celebrating summer.
At this time we’re shooting for starting and ending in Holland, Michigan. There will be options for travel from Upland to Holland and return to Upland.
Originally, everyone rode a 50cc scooter. Times have changed. Your scooter needs to be able to cruise at 45 miles per hour. Any scooter with a wheel base greater than 55 inches from axle to axle will need to be transported to the starting point and from the
ending point by the rider. If your axle length is close, be in touch.
Scooter maintenance is becoming more of a problem with the multiple brands and sizes of scooters. To date we have had great success with maintaining the scooters. Most of our replacement parts will be for KYMCO scooters. Make sure you have paid serious attention to the road worthiness of your scooter; tires and transmission are critical. Again, TIRES ARE CRITICAL! DO NOT SKIMP!

A note of caution: as innocent as the little scooters appear, they require serious training time. However, the transition from bicycle to scooter is a natural one.
