SPRING
COAST TO COAST
(67th crossing)
Southern California to Brunswick, Georgia
March 19 - April 29
Our southern route is one of the best tuned in touring. WHEELS has cycled from Southern California to the Georgia coastline over 20 times. Our nightly stops are with people who have become like family. They look forward to our yearly visits. One church even built showers for us!
The trip is 2,600 miles in distance with three tent camping nights and the remaining nights in churches, schools and motels. Three of the six weekends are non-riding, while the other three weekends each have two half-days non-riding, equalling a full day off. The average daily miles are 75 to 80. The route starts on the Pacific Ocean. The following days ease us into the foothills and desert of the West. Springtime shows the desert at its best. Arizona and New Mexico are geographical delights. You feel like you have stepped into a page of Arizona Highways Magazine. Texas is a surprise...wide open spaces and beautiful Lady Bird Highway flowers all along the way. “Big D”, Dallas, is a great ride. East out of Dallas we head for Louisiana. This leg of Texas is a rolling cycling surprise. The culture of the South hits us in Shreveport, Louisiana, and continues east all the way to the Atlantic Ocean near Brunswick where we touch the opposite side of America.
